Originally named by Maori as Takapo, meaning, "to leave in haste at night", the corrupted version, Tekapo, is now associated with it's eponymous township and stunning lake.

It's obvious when you come here that it's recent habitation by humans two centuries ago has left this part of the world absolutely pristine.

Lake Tekapo Scenic Reserve is one of my favourite places on earth! The highland lakes, tussock grasses and iconic church make Lake Tekapo a great place to hangout in the weekend or over Christmas.

For sizeable brown and rainbow trout and even salmon then the beautiful Lake Tekapo is the fishing spot for you. The turquoise coloured lake provides and excellent spot for fishing thanks to the MacKenzie (or Waitaki) hydro canals, man-made canals joining three lakes.
