Maketu is a wee gem on the Bay of Plenty Coast.

It's fish and chips shop is known for lip-smacking food and for being the famous subject of a oil painting by Robin White in 1975.

Like the artwork, it's food is stylish, clean and local.

Not what it used to be , nasty old lady serving cant be bothered being friendly, and dont even try to pay with eftpos she said we have to pay with cash, fish was pre frozen and yuck, ask for $8 a bit of fish it should be fresh snapper , never going back for her soggy crap

        The amazing views up the coast to The Mount make this an amazing place to pick up some pretty good fresh fish and chips to eat them on the beach.

          Best fresh fish and decent potion sizes. Great value for money.kids can still get individual parcels like the good old days. Nothing like fish and chips down at the beach looking out over the estuary ......watching the sunset.
