Heather - Maungaraki Oscar Centre Manager

Hi, I’m Heather.

I have lived in Maungaraki for the past three years with my 8 year old son Ryley who attends Maungaraki School. We love the area and have made many good friends since being here. You may recognise me from working in Evans’s or Arthur Toye Fabrics. I  have always been a keen sewer although I’ve moved away from dressmaking and tend to do home furnishings these days.

In my free time I enjoy being with Ryley and our friends. I love a bargain so I get a real thrill second-hand shopping. I make fudge for the Wellington markets, and also enjoy cooking and Zumba.

Once Ryley started school I helped out and saw the need for more Teacher Aides so studied part time to complete my certificate in Teacher Aiding. I really enjoyed working with our local kids but needed more permanent work, so I spent the last year working at Wilford School in Petone as a Supervisor then Duty Manager.

Recently I was offered the Managers role at our new and exciting Maungaraki Oscar and I am really looking forward to providing a much needed service for our local families. We are going to provide a high standard of care for your children and give them a fun, safe environment to come to where they feel at home.

Our kids are what we are about.

Jacqui - Maungaraki Oscar Supervisor

Hello – my name is Jacqui.

I live locally in Maungaraki, but have recently moved from Marlborough with my husband and three daughters.

Having travelled extensively and experiencing a variety of employment (from a photo technician to nannying overseas) I have acquired different work and life skills.

Since 1995 my main role as an at home Mum has been challenging as well as enjoyable and a rewarding one. My past and present interests include highland dancing/bagpipe playing, hockey and hockey coaching, floral art, harriers, hospice volunteering, etc.

I am looking forward to taking on a role as one of the Oscar supervisors, where I can offer my nurturing and life skills at the new Maungaraki Oscar centre.

Jill - Maungaraki Oscar Supervisor

Hi. My name is Jill.

I lived in Maungaraki for about 25 years and we raised our family there. We were involved in Kindergarten and Playcentre and I trained as a Playcentre Supervisor. We had a lot of fun living on the hill and our kids ran pretty free with not many traffic worries. It was great. We moved down to central Hutt when our youngest child was a teenager and I had grown tired of late night pickups from Wellington!

When Playcentre days were finished, I trained as a Primary Teacher and that’s what I’ve been doing for the last 20 years or so. I gained my Higher Diploma in Teaching and also trained as a Reading Recovery Teacher. I am employed as a Reading Recovery Teacher and work every morning.

I am a grandmother of four gorgeous kids who are all the most intelligent and best behaved children on the planet (of course). Their parents would not agree with the last bit. Sadly they all live in Australia so I spend a lot of time saving my money and flying back and forwards to see them all.

I am looking forward to our exciting new After School Care programme and spending time helping children with their homework. I also enjoy reading stories and being read to.
