When I eat out the he only thing I love devouring more than a great cut of meat is a bottle of wine. At Mills Reef Winery & Restaurant you can get the best of both. Their organic eye fillet is so tender and you know it’s been raised in a pure environment and ethically. To compliment this fine cut of beef the dish comes with artichoke gratin, red wine glazed shallots and petit mushroom pie. Don’t forget to wash it down with one of the in-house wines.
This is one of my favourite restaurants to head to on a Sunday afternoon. You can sit outside and look out over the property, sip wine, eat great food and have a stroll around the manicured grounds. It's a very popular spot for Tauranga weddings or conferences and has a very atmospheric tasting room in the cellar. Owned by the Preston family, the winery complex includes an award-winning restaurant that can seat up to 150 people. Perfect for weddings, conferences or special occasions, the restaurant serves delicious Antipodean/Pacific-rim styled food and looks out onto the sunny vineyard.
There seems to be a bit of a theme to my long lunch list - vino. If I’m going to sit and relax over a meal for a while though, I do like to do so with a crisp sav in hand. Besides great food and wine, Mills Reef offers a spacious and picturesque rural setting for an outdoor lunch. It’s only a five minute drive out of town and there’s plenty of room for the kids to burn of excess energy.
