The Mo’ui ‘Aonga Tongan Cultural Centre is situated in Otahuhu where it has been a hub of the Tongan community since 2000 when it was set up by the Mo’ui ‘Aonga Trust. The trust currently has six active members with their main purpose being to educate the younger generations in Tongan culture and nimamea’a (fine arts), particularly those born in New Zealand.

Art pieces available for sale include mats, baskets, adornments, waist mats, wall hangings, fans and traditional dance costumes, which they also exhibit and demonstrate at various events including the annual Pasifika festival.

An incredible array of Tongan cultural wealth that is created, used, invested in, gifted and received within Auckland’s significant Tongan community. The innovative use of plastic grapes is particularly fascinating!
