No matter how you love to enjoy the outdoors, you're sure to be blown away by the sheer beauty and pure fun to be found at Mt Taranaki and the surrounding Egmont National Park. If you're a skier or a snowboarder, hit the slopes for a thrill filled day on one of New Zealand's greatest peaks.

If you're not so keen on the snow sports, there are several walking tracks so you can take in the scenery and clear mountain air. Climbing to the summit is doable for experienced hikers (a 5 hour ascent and a 3 hour descent), but taking a guide is recommended to get the most out of the climb and, of course, to stay safe.

Mt Taranaki is a classic and fun activity that the whole family can enjoy; it’s free, relatively easy to get to, and can occupy your time for the whole day if you let it. Bring anything to play with from a slab of cardboard, to an actual toboggan and have fun in the snow! My favourite thing to do is to find big hills and slide down them on a snow disk, probably not the safest for the little ones but for the big kids it’s so much fun!

Mt Taranaki is a favourite place of mine I like to visit in winter; the snow is something that we rarely ever get in Taranaki, so going up the mountain to play in the snow is definitely a bucket-list item when in the region. Bring along anything to use in the snow; cardboard or toboggans to slide on and sandcastle tools to build snowmen with, it’s a guaranteed good day activity! Make sure you don’t forget hats and gloves!
