I'd definitely recommend trying this place if you're after a cheap & healthy vegetarian meal!  Great service, centrally located and huge value for money.  The only disappointing thing is that they are not open longer hours.

Definitely a great vegetarian eat that won't break the bank account! And you can get dessert there too!

Went here today for lunch, for $6 (or $5 if you're a student), you get a plate of rice, curry, dhal soup, pakoras (deep fried balls of vegetable GLORY!), and dessert (mine was halwa with custard). I also recommend the samosas, they are awesome. It's definitely not flash or gourmet, but if you're hungry and on a budget- it's amazing!

Hare Krishnas. Many associate them with being "one of those hippie groups", often singing and dancing merrily around town. Officially, they are a "Gaudiya Vaishnava religious organization" that are based a lot on Hinduism (you can read more about it on Wikipedia or do a Google search). Today we decided to cleanse our mind and soul with some very wholesome vegetarian food. Some even say that following a strict diet of vegetarianism will make you a calmer, more peaceful person. Personally, I eat food that taste good, regardless of what religious or personal beliefs the cuisine leans towards. Hare Krishna Food For Life is tucked away on K'Road in uptown Auckland. The storefront is simple and basic, completely following the mantra of the religion. Inside it's clean and tidy with a cafeteria feel. As soon as I approach the counter, you are greeted warmly. They offer 2 basic meal combos, with a variety of snacks and side dishes. I decided to go for the Thaali, which consists of dhal soup, chappati, vegetable curry, paneer curry, pakoras with chuntney, rice, a piece of papadam and naan bread, and a halva dessert. Pretty much a complete 3 course meal. Everything was presented well on a big silver platter, and don't let the lack of meat deceive you, it is a lot of food. It's also surprisingly tasty, with distinct flavours coming through in each of the curries, although I did add a bit of salt as I find the dishes just a tad underseasoned (most likely to cater for those who actually follow the religion and the diet). Best of all, it is extremely good value for money: NZ$12 for the Thaali combo (which drops to NZ$10 if you have a student ID). So if you feel like your mind and soul needs a bit of cleansing, or that you have been over-indulging in rich foods as of late and need a change of pace, head over here and give vegetarian food a go.

I’ve always loved Hare Krishna food... it’s always so tasty and wholesome, with interesting flavours. Usually in the past though I’ve had it at fairs or from stalls - this is the first Hare Krishna restaurant I’ve visited, and I love the whole concept - you get a big meal with several courses including dessert. The wall art is pretty cool too - very colourful, peaceful place with lovely staff.

I love the value meal at Food For Life, rice and vegetables, soup, desert and 3 super tasty doughy ball things all for $6 or $5 for students. You get so much food you could even share it between two people. I always find Indian food too spicy for me so I think it's fantastic that Food For Life doesn't use strong spices. I really enjoy the subtle flavours.

Value and nutritious-i feel so good everyday i eat here-k road institution:)

Great value for money with their all you can eat buffet lunches. The food is 100% vegetarian and uniformly tasty. Well worth a visit when you’re in the mood for something different to sandwiches or sushi.

Great vegetarian food. Minimal cost for all you can eat including dessert. Very popular with students and healthy and yummy to boot!
