We came here after an invite from a friend to go drinking. Upon arrival it was clear the place would be nice, with plenty of chairs and seats to sit on outside, and shelter from the rain and cold. Inside it had a nice warm atmosphere with dim lights. Toilets were also kept in pristine and clean state. Despite the nice environment however, I don't think it's worth going back to after my first and only visit, given the high prices. Last time we paid $40 for a jug of beer, enough for 4 people which was too much. It'd be a good place to hang out just to chat and socialise with friends though if you weren't intending to drink.
The view and atmosphere here were the best (you can see Eden Park)! They have awesome drinks too, and the food was pretty darn good. I had the chicken BFT (bacon feta tomato) and though it looked a bit small it was amazingly filling. My partner had the ricotta ravioli which also looked a bit small but again was extremely filling. We will definitely come back here, especially when we have people visiting.
Just a stunning, relaxed atmosphere! This place is HUGE! They have a large outdoor section artthe font and a large dining and seating area indoors. The staff are very friendly. As will all MACS bars, this one also has great decor, love the big comfy seats. There is a teeny tiny car park at the back but you would be lucky to get a park there. Can't wait to come back here and try the menu, looks great.
Sometimes come here instead of shaky isles, the endless coffee vs beer war, despite both places serving both, albeit in varying incarnations. I’ve found the food to be good, if portioned perhaps a little small. At least the selection is varied and always accompanied with some graceful foliage of a tasty garnish so you can get your five a day without also ordering a few side salads. But then, you’re probably only here for a beer, or wine, or to hobnob with minor celebrities and the odd nice politician(I saw a smiling David shearer on one visit. Top bloke) . The wait staff are all really nice. I do like it. They cook me yummy prawns and the can children pretend play that they’re in a garden of fairy lights, whilst the outside fires add more than a small touch of comforting ambiance to a lazy, long, forget-about-work/chores/restoftheworld-day.
This is a top notch bar, good selection of beers, and plenty of wines by the glass, food is excellent and details like leaving the skins (tasty!) on their hand cut chips and different dipping sauces make this place better than your average pub. I do have to say that portion-wise, some menu items could either be bigger, or perhaps cost a little less, to keep them in line with several top-notch eateries I can think of, off the top of my head that serve similar things(popcorn shrimp, salt and pepper squid) and charge half as much for a similar sized “small plate”. That’s the only reason why they get four stars and not five.
The layout and interior of this bar is so unique and awesome. From the hanging light bulbs, old school suitcases behind the bar and the cozy out outdoor seating creates an overall fun environment to spend with friends. This is a great option if your looking to venture somewhere a little different from the city or Ponsonby!
The team from Focus occasionally go to the Neighbourhood Brewbar for after work drinks on a Friday and we all love the place. The atmosphere is great, the drinks reasonably priced and the food is delicious. The decor in the bar is unique and our crew always have a good time. It attracts a wide range of clientele, and is welcoming to all.
This place takes on different personalities as the time of day and day of the week progresses. During the day it's totally mellow and laid back, but get to Friday night and it's like Ponsonby Rd - bouncer on the door and people watching. The food is okay, but then it's more somewhere I'd go for a drink, not to eat.
