No. 1 High Street used to be the infamous Met club, so it didn’t really have big shoes to fill. However, as dirty as Met was it was loved by many so when it closed down we were all gutted and expected something just as manky to take its place. But then No. 1 High Street appeared and we cautiously and warily scoped it out. It is, in my opinion, definitely one of the nicer joints in Auckland. I have only been here on nights out for dancing, not for dinner/lunch as you can do. It has a huge downstairs area for dancing which is very elegant and classy. Then the upstairs bit is available to be hired out for private functions and is the perfect place for a chit chat with your mate. I love the little touches they have put on this place like the piano that the djs play at and the beautiful bathrooms with huge mirrors. This place is very high class.

Wednesdays are the best - half price mains with a drink. Food is delicious and so is the atmosphere!

We stopped into No. 1 High Street pretty late on Sarurday night after being promised $5 house drinks. I hadn’t set foot into the club since it was Met and Code. The new vintage inspired decor complete with a grand piano and old books are a far cry from the seedy, clubbers paradise that it used to be. The bar staff were friendly and efficient and the DJs were churning out the bangers. Not my usual kind of spot but it was fine for a cheap drink and a laugh.

Came here on a half price main meals Wednesday night and had a delicious vegetarian dish! No 1 high street serves great food!  Some of the staff here however are a bit cocky in trying to attract you in.

Really love it.

Cool place for a drink at a Thursday night!

I was very pleasantly surprised by the affordability of Number 1 high street. the environment and atmosphere is gorgeous, they have worked hard on restoring this beautiful building. the menu is an interesting mix of burgers, salads, steaks and platters. Everything is basically under $30. Ther service was top notch, we arrived  a little early to secure a seat as it gets dead busy here. My friend ordered the bacon burger and was very happy with the result, the portions were very generous! i ordered the $16 steak and it was cooked perfectly and very tatsy! Will be back very soon as i really want to try out their sharing platters. top notch, new lunch spot!

I was really surprised when I popped into No.1 on a scouting trip to find a nice place to take my mum out to dinner (yes, girl has respect for her parents and all they've done for me!). I'd been expecting somewhere a lot pricier for its location and decor, but was pleasantly surprised. Thanks to the awesomely normal price margins, it seemed like more of a blokes' after-work beer hangout than the trendy up-bar it appeared on first impressions. But who really cares? Not my mum and I. Besides, it probably attracts a different crowd depending on the day of the week. I really like the New York library style decor popping up all over the show around these shared spaces. Subway-esque tiles, old bookcases, comfy couches and careful lighting choices have transformed this pillared interior into something far above its class. We started off with a couple of Hendricks' G'n'Ts and shared a DIY platter (4x tapas on a platter for $30, six for $50 - not bad!). The aubergine hummus was awesome, as were the croquettes (smoky mozzarella... mi piaci) although the baked salmon and prawn cocktail were so-so. Paired with a couple of glasses of the Ti Point 'Two' Merlot/Cab Franc, it was a really good casual monday night that cost us $70. We were served by a lovely Argentinian chick called Millie. I'm definitely going to go back and try the salads. And the burgers. And everything else.

Ooh- sounds like a perfect after-work option. Cheers for that- on the list.

No. 1 has a gorgeous inside space with a 1920s influence. One area boasts a long wide table and loads of hardback books, so you feel like you're in a library or some sort of exclusive club. The ceilings soar, the menu is varied and not too pricy (I tried, the hummus which is really good) and if you feel like catching some rays, there are some nice little tables set up with umbrellas set up outside.

It's a new place so I'll revise my raving once they've had time to establish but... last time I visited my paella was burned and the waiter looked scruffy and had a black eye. Hrrmm. The place itself is lovely, nicely situated to my work and a good place to go for a casual drink. Holding high hopes that the food and service will improve!
