Even before you enter the gallery space itself, you'll be faced with monumental murals of modern-day icons such as Princess Diana and Notorious BIG. Local artist Owen Dippie both displays and works out of this space, creating paintings, sculptures and streetwear. If you're lucky you might get to meet his pugs behind the counter!
This is an incredible space! Hidden in an industrial area, you will see the murals before you get to the gallery. Huge, amazingly detailed murals of Nelson Mandela, Marilyn Monroe, Biggie and more. When you walk into the gallery you will see more awesome artwork and *brace yourself* PUGS! Owen and his wife are usually found in here, as out the back is his work space. Cuddle some pugs, see some art and meet a lovely and talented artist. A must see while in The Mount.
This is the Mt Maunganui hub for Tauranga artist Owen Dippie. Dippie has become a talking point around town with his 'Larger Then Life Project" - giant-sized airbrushed murals of famous masterpieces by artists from Goldie to Vermeer. The works are replicated on a grand scale throughout the city, peeping at you in the most unexpected places and adding a creative element of surprise and delight to Tauranga's streets. If you're a fan of his street art, the OD Gallery is the place to view or purchase Dippie's smaller original works, prints, sculptures, street art supplies and even stickers. And check out the OD clothing while you are there too. Very cool, very inspiring. A big Localist thumbs up to Dippie for deeply enriching his local community.
