So often I find myself paying up for an okay but slightly unrewarding meal and ask whether the staff have derived any enjoyment doing their job and working their shift. More often than not, the answer is a resounding no, but Ortega Fish Shack does fun and fantastic food like no place else I’ve been to in Wellington. A mouth-watering menu, carefully matched wines and a vibrant restaurant make this place my other half’s and mine’s special treat. A little on the expensive side for my humble budget, but worth every cent.

I cannot recommend this place to enough people - it is my favourite restaurant in Wellington! The decor, staff, food and wine selection is perfection!

Rustic and full of fun, Ortega Fish Shack – as you can imagine – specialises in fish and seafood.  Don’t worry though if this isn’t your thing, they do incredible things with other meat as well. Go there and expect to eat great bold flavours, perfectly cooked fish, generous servings of side dishes and incredible service. We also adore the waiter’s leather oyster shucker-inspired aprons.

Mean meal, so fresh with service to match. Try it

Ortega has a lovely relaxed vibe, with charming staff who are attentive but magically melt into the background. The food is incredible - oysters, scallops and all the fresh fish your heart desires. All the dishes bring out the best in their ingredients- definitely a must-do for anyone who loves seafood. Great wine and desserts also. Make sure to book as they’re very busy!
