Swim surf sunbath and take in the beauty of it all!

pulled in in the campervan midwinter not many people around got a nice hot drink enjoyed the company of a few back packers smoking and talking Not much happening mid week .But  I must admit it would be very difficult in mid summer to get near Bairs looks like a great spot , 100 yards or so from the rolling surf . Very basic and just cool really I liked the laid back no frills decor and .... well view the photograph .If you want better you will have to go to downtown Piha where there are two places to choose from .

A trip to Piha is always a good way to blow away the cobwebs and leave the busyness of the city behind.  Every time I come here, I tell myself that I will visit more often.  It's a great beach for a walk and, as long as you stay between the flags, for a spot of body boarding or wave surfing.  There are also quite a few private baches available for hire, we've occasionally made a weekend of it, which is just awesome.  Otherwise, a day at the beach followed by take aways for dinner watching the sunset is pretty hard to beat.

Man I love this beach. I love the wild west coast black sand. I first came here in 1998 as a teen from the States and its one of the reasons I moved to NZ. This is a great place to holiday or for a day trip. Its a nice drive out of Auckland and its truly a feeling of being outside the city

Love this beach. It has it all, massive sand dunes, plenty or rocks to climb on and over, the surf for those inclined, and its a long enough beach to have plenty of room. Love going to Piha, and if you like your driving you will also enjoy the drive out there, it's quite a bit of fun for the motoring enthusiast.

Gorgeous beach for a sunset! Really feel the power of the ocean at Piha! :)  Had my first kiss here :)

If your into long walks on the sandy beachs and watching the sunset with that someone special then you will be VERY impressed with Piha when it shows itself in all its glory. Hidden away in the back of the Waitakere Piha has many good things to offer especially if you havnt been there before. From surfing to sight seeing this place has the lot AND ITS ALL FREE so thats good too. There is only one shop and its very small so if you want food its best you take it but who cares when you get sun sets like the one im my photo. We hired a batch for my mates 21st and it was AWESOME!!! almost nobody around and looking over your hedge just a few friendly people having a bbq in the sun. BRING ON SUMMER!!! (ps that photo belongs to me so feel free to look but dont use it or bruce willis will hunt you down in a gunship)

Piha is a beautiful, rugged black sand beach. It's a gorgeous spot for a swim and beach walk and only about 45 mins from the city. I think this is the pick of the beaches around Auckland - Ideal for a day trip. There's a little cafe so you can park up for the day.

This beach is stunning, a beautiful location for visitors and locals to enjoy all year round.  Aesthetically superb it's nothing like the East Coast beaches Auckland has on offer but rather exudes a ruggedly beautiful charm that draws you in from the moment you view the coast on your drive along the winding roads down to the beach.

Piha is a stunning beach.  Its a windy drive down to the beach but well worth it.  In summer its great to come to and watch the surfers and go for walks along.  You can easily spend a whole day here.  The surf is very rough so not that ideal for young children or weak swimmers.  I have full respect for life savers who volunteer their time to save multiple lives from this beach and many others out west!!!!!
