The title of best Indian restaurant in Newtown is hotly contested, but the zany space-themed murals inside Planet Spice definitely push it into the top spot. This place is perfect for a BYO with friends and is reasonably priced for a student budget.

    Newtown’s full of Indian restaurants, but few are as busy, as often, as Planet Spice. With extra seating available upstairs, it’s a great choice for big groups looking to dine in and BYO, but be sure to book. (If Planet Spice is packed, Curry Heaven, a few doors down, is another popular choice.)

      This place is seriously so fun. Between the vibrant space-themed murals and friendly wait staff, I would probably recommend Planet Spice for a dinner out with the whole gang even if the food was only so-so. But the food is also amazing! While everything is served traditionally, Planet Spice is not your average Indian food restaurant. Staples like the dal makhani are perfectly executed, but others like palak paneer are served with an innovative twist. As their motto says, Planet Spice is truly an 'out of this world' Indian experience.

        I think this is probably the best place for Indian in the city. Dinner from here is always a spectacular event. But you should remember to call ahead, as it's extremely popular. BYO is a distinct advantage too when you want enjoy a few drinks (at cost price).
