Their breakfasts are always different and amazing. The Ravenhill 'Energy' gives you a plateful of deliciousness - avocado, salad, pumpernickel, beetroot and the best poached eggs anywhere. Their coffees are great and the staff are always super friendly.

Great Coffee

There are so many great cafes in ‘the new Ponsonby’, Birkenhead. I like this one because they tick all the boxes - great coffee: tick, tasty salads which you can mix and match for a reasonable price so you don’t feel so bad about devouring that brownie afterwards: tick, pram-friendly surrounds: tick. On the latter, the venue is surprisingly spacious, boasting a covered courtyard and indoor space out back. It’s a beautiful setting with equally beautiful coffee and tasty, reasonably priced food served by prompt and attentive wait staff.

Ravenhill always make a great coffee and it's a delight to be able to take time out and drink it there in the courtyard out the back. They are baby/toddler friendly with plenty of high-chairs, a change table and a box of toys. Definitely a go-to place in Birkenhead.

Stopped in on the way home after my Sunday morning ride. Lovely to sit out in the sun and enjoy a coffee and some grub. I was serverd promptly with a smile and good humour. However the delivery did not live up to expectations. Coffee order was wrong then took for ever to correct, seemed the staff had had a late Saturday night as nothing was very efficient, even took forever to warm a muffin such that coffee was gone and we decided not to have another as it would take too long. One staff member even heard to say "my brain is dead". This experience has really put me off going back as I expect more from cafes especially after the warm greating.

I must admit, I'm quite a quality coffee scout, and the vanilla latte I had at Ravenhill was perfect. Plus the grilled chicken sandwich was a monster! I'll be back :)

Was another rainy day so popped down to Ravenhill with friends, their idea and recommendation. I wasn't disappointed and would recommend the signature breakfast dish of eggs benedict on potato hash cakes with salmon. Only regret is not taking a photo to show everyone.

Ravenhill enjoys a corner position in an old tiled butchers shop on Hinemoa st, one of the most picturesque streets heading towards the point. Sitting outside we enjoyed a croque madam ( carved leg ham and melted cheese on toast with a fried egg )was yummy although I do prefer it a little more in the traditional French style – and Creamed mushrooms on a healthy and nutritious whole grain toast which my wife exclaimed to be delicious. Coffee never to be overlooked was “Millers” and did the trick perfectly of waking us up with a deep dark roast cup of liquid flavour.

Another great place to have brunch in Birkenhead. Ravenhill’s highlight is the massive courtyard out back. I get sick of sitting inside and the courtyard is perfect for claustrophobic people. They have a good selection of cabinet food, but you can’t go past the eggs benedict at Ravenhill Cafe. We tried going there for Mother’s Day but it was fully booked out so just becareful and remember to book ahead!

I've been here quite a number of times over the past few years, and have had some amazing meals - but also have had some pretty average or downright mediocre ones too. Not sure if it's changing staff or just sometimes them having an off day, but it does mean you can never really be sure what you'll get. Also, the service can be a bit slow depending on the day. The $10 lunch specials were great though, really good value for nice cafe food. The courtyard area is nice and warm on a sunny day (or with the gas heaters on in winter), though the whole place does look like it could do with a bit of a renovation sometime in the near future. Overall, not a bad place to come for lunch in the area, but there's room for improvement.
