Nestled down a lesser known arcade on K Road Auckland lies a hidden gem for vinyl collectors and retro lovers that's already become the talk of the local music community. Its proud owner Tito Tafa has always dreamed of opening a record store... ever since he was a kid. Now with a whole lot of hard work, he's made his vision a reality with Rebel Soul Records.

There's so much good stock in here, you're sure to find whatever tunes ring your bell. With his vast knowledge of music and ear for a decent tune, Tito has amassed an an eclectic collection of vinyl - including a wide selection of jazz, blues, soul, afro-beat, ska, reggae, dub, punk, alternative, hip hop and electronica. He also stocks an eclectic range of art prints, posters, pop culture and retro items and musical curios. Also on offer is a free vinyl clean and repair station.

“My dream is for Rebel Soul Records to become the inner-city hub for all lovers of quality music city-wide and vinyl junkies everywhere,” he says proudly. “This store is the latest addition to Auckland’s independent record shop network. It’s great to see music and vinyl retail expanding in the city, counter to premature reports of its demise.”

Pop down soon, hunt for your favourite vinyl and catch up with Tito, who will be more than happy to give you advice and tips on the rare, the best and the old skool.

Looks good! A home away from home. Am looking forward to all the good vibes I know will be eminating. Thanks Rob.

For music lovers, this is one of the newest hidden gems in town. You'll find owner Tito Tafa and the record store he's dreamed of opening since childhood in a little nook of an arcade in K Road in Auckland that also houses the Samoan consulate. The brightly coloured shop is full of some of the best, vintage vinyl around and I love the fact that there's lots of retro and second hand furniture for sale too as well as turntables because if you didn't know already, vinyl is back... and in a very big way! There's also the best tiki mugs for sale and every visit means you're guaranteed to hear something fresh spinning on Tito's wheels of steels.
