I love heading here for something not quite so mainstream. Love foreign films? Head here.

In one of there small cinemas - #1 - a lovely setting to sit back and enjoy a captivating movie (with a decent story line). Always enjoy my visits to Rialto - especially taking a glass of wine into the cinema with me!

An institution as far as local cinemas go, the Rialto Cinema in Newmarket keeps getting better and better. As well as screening the best independent films, they host numerous special screenings, including Films for Foodies and Baby & Me screenings for mums and littlies. Also, their food and beverage selection is fantastic.

We just got back from seeing Moonrise Kingdom at the Rialto, and it was a very pleasant experience. They always show a good range of films, with some of the current hollywood films, plus loads of foreign and arty films, so theres plenty to choose from. It's worth joining their film club, as they have special deals going - for this month if you spend $5 at the candy bar, you get a free small popcorn on presentation of your card. It's free to join.

I've been going here for ages. Way before the new revamp. I must say the revamp took away some of the charm but its not a way nicer theatre and experience. Its the best place to see the more arty films. Fully recommended.

New markets Rialto cinema has a great range of art house films! They offer good coffee and a reasonable candy bar range. The staff are friendly enough and offer fast transactions which is what you want when you are in a hurry to see a film! Comfortable seats and very clean and tidy a nice outing indeed.

Went here for the Wanaka Mountain Film Festival Highlights and was very impressed at the fact that they allow different sorts of experiences. As well as enjoying the films we had a pre-talk by the host of "First Crossings" and got to interact on a more personal level and enjoy a varied multimedia experience. Also have a great student deal club. Looking forward to using my free ticket!

There are two listings for the rialto cinema so chose this one. The Rialto plays a good selection of movies and they have great festivals going a lot of the time, like Italian. The counter can be a mess sometimes and you don't know where to queue or who's next in line. But you can take wine into the theatre so that probably makes up for it. Sometimes the theatres can a be cold, but on last visit it was perfect so maybe they've sorted that out. Oh yeah, the staff could smile a bit more. Some of them look like they're in pain.

It's never too busy here so there's a chilled out vibe where you can grab a drink and bite in the cafe before your movie. The staff are always friendly and after your movie it is always fun to end the night with a round of the basketball game in the arcade!
