Kelly Tarltons was always heaps of fun when I was at school, and now that I have Nephews and Nieces it's great to be able to take them along to see some of the underwater mysteries explained in a clear, entertaining manner. Try one of the sleepovers if you get a chance, there's nothing quite like being able to sleep with the fishes!
Take the plunge – if you dare you! The most popular adrenaline activity at Kelly Tarltons– Shark Cage - is a unique way to get face-to-face with amazing predators of the deep, with nothing but a cage between you and the sharks! The cage is partially submerged in the Shark tank – home to School, Wobbegong and Broadnose Sevengill sharks - so you’re guaranteed to have a close encounter of the shark kind, every time. Through the cage’s clear Perspex bottom you can marvel at sharks, stingrays and other fish from New Zealand’s coastal waters swimming below, or past the mesh walls of the cage – often only feet away. With no diving experience required, and all the instruction you need from the experienced guides, this is the easiest, safest and most exciting way to meet the often feared predators of the deep. The experience takes approximately 1 hour – 15 minutes of which are spent snorkelling with the sharks. Prior to taking the plunge you will get a behind-the-scenes peek at Kelly Tarlton’s before being briefed for your encounter.
Kelly Tarlton's great for kids. I took a niece there one Sunday afternoon and she loved every minute of it. We first hopped on the arctic explorer vehicle ride which took us around the penguins enclosure, followed by the underwater world. It never gets dull and even I was transfixed by the various creatures from the deep.
Great family day trip to the underwater world of Kelly Tarlton. From the moment you smell the fish and enter the place you know youre going to enjoy a new adventure. It starts by walking through Scotts hut then you get on a cool ( yes theres real ice) ride in a snow mobile to travel through 'Antartica' to see our amazing Emperor penguins plus more.. then you wander at will past the stingrays stopping to see them fed if you time it right. Next jump on the people-mover and stare up ... travelling under great beasts of the oceans... sharks, fish, creatures... Finish off drooling.. I mean looking at the hundreds of huge crayfish ( soooo tempted to pop one in my purse for dinner) then through the shop to buy yourself a fishy souvenir. My kids love this place and once a year is not enough to visit it they tell me. They have great birthday parties for kids ( been to a hundred and still enjoy it) and both my kids got to sleep under the fish on school trips.. fantastic place.
