During the winter months there is nothing we like better than heading to Kelly Tarlton's. There is always lots of space for my girls to run around and we end up going back and forth as the chose what to see next but it helps them to get rid of some of their energy which is great. We love the penguin ride and were sad to see it go, but on our last visit we were very interested to see the open fish tanks for the children to explore with the assistance of a staff member. The girls loved touching and holding the starfish as well as getting to touch the spikey Kina. It was a new experience for all of us and lots of fun.
I love taking my girls here. We have an annual pass so they love being able to go when ever they like and it is great to have someone to go in winter to have fun. We love the penguin ride which is sad to see it has gone but hopefully something new will replace it soon. Last time we went it was so great to see the open tanks for the children to explore with the help of a staff member. Being able to touch and hold starfish as well as feel the spikes of the kina. It was a great experience for mum and the kids. Something very different and special.
Our kids have enjoyed visiting Kelly tarlton's on a wet day. It is nice to be able to go somewhere and let them run free. It is sad to think the penguin ride which i enjoyed riding on as a kid has gone and wont be returning but hopefully the new penguin enclosure will still be fun and offer something new and exciting. My kids love the sharks and going around and around in the tunnel. It is a great escape from the weather and parking is generally pretty easy too.
Interesting place to take kids but I look forward to the renovations being completed (beg Oct I think). The penguin ride will be gone but I think it will be a walkthrough which will be cool. Love the pools where helpful staff let you touch the sea life and talk to you about what's in the pools - our fave is the crab that puts bits of shell etc on its back to camouflage itself. We have a pass that anyone can take our daughter and it’s been so useful.
Took my 1 and 2 year olds here a few weeks back, both loved the fish, particularly the sharks and the tunnel under the pools. It was good for an hour and half to 2 hours but then we had seen everything. Has a really nice layout and friendly staff. Price is steep but you can save 10% booking online. We also found it to be not very pram friendly. The downward ramp on which you queue, ( for 20 mins in our case) to get in is annoying and the lifts to get out only take 1 pram at a time. But otherwise a good couple of hours.
I remember visiting Kelly Tarlton's as a child and the excitement of riding the conveyor belt and gazing above at the amazing water world...Kelly's is still a good experience but doesn't seem to have changed at all and could do with a bit of love to freshen the place up..it's just looking a little tired these days. A world pioneer of Aquarium exhibits it would be wonderful to see it get the facelift it deserves and continue to amaze its eager visitors for many years to come.
