Just like Sri Penang, Selera doesn’t look like much but it’s one of the tastiest and most authentic tastes of Malaysia in Auckland. Order the Mee Goreng noodles and smash some free green tea and you’ll find out why everyone loves this place.

One of the best and most authentic Malaysian food in Auckland...their Laksa, mie goreng and sambal chicken are YUM!

Great reasonably priced food. Their Laksa is the best, but watch out it usually sells out by 8:15 - I've learnt from experience :(

Fish Laksa is the best in town - spicy and warming

When it's cold outside, nothing beats secreting away for an authentic laksa. I love a good, spicy broth that wakes up the senses after just a few big spoonfuls and the laksa ($11) served up at Selera does exactly that. It's also got gorgeous colour and is full of fragrance. And then, of course, there's the toppings. I love the chicken laksa because the meat is always fresh, chunky and tasty and the hard boiled egg on top is also an excellent touch. If you are a laksa fan make sure you get to this local Auckland gem.

Authentic Malaysian with generous servings of noodles or rice - I can’t walk past without getting their chicken laksa !

just yummy food

I travelled to Malaysia a few years ago and fell head-over-heels for the unique melting pot of flavours that come from this South-East Asian slice of paradise. So when I came home to Auckland I began a quest - to search out the most original flavours I could find. Malaysian food is a real blend of Malay, Indian and Chinese flavours and that’s what makes it so cool. Before I stumbled across Selera in Newmarket, I thought I’d nailed it with an inner-city restaurant but for a good cheap eat, this little gem is where I go. Known for doing one of the most traditional beef rendang dishes in Auckland, their meals are steal at just $13.50 for a main. And the service is the kind of friendly hospitality you come to expect in Malaysia. What a fabulous find!

love everything on the menu, esp nasi lamak!! #shoutme

Cheap Malaysian!
