There’s always room for a soda and slider from Six Barrel’s. Located upstairs behind Hope Bros, you can sit at the communal counter or around the windows where you can be sure to get in some quality people watching. The syrup flavours are seasonal so you always get to look forward to something new. They have a small selection of baked goods but I always insist on having a soda float and a slider, filled with delicious pulled pork and served with a side of pickles and fries. They also do cocktails, sundaes and bottomless filter coffee! What more could you want for a lovely afternoon tummy filler.
Six Barrel Soda Factory might be a boutique soda factory and bar, but they're no slouches in the coffee department either. With experienced staff pumping delicious People's Coffee blends out of the machine, you're guaranteed a tasty wake-up when you when caffeinated inside Six Barrel. Perhaps the true coffee highlight of the locality however is their bottomless cups of brewed coffee, drink as many as you want, or dare! Airy, spacious and clean, Six Barrel is always an excellent spot for a catch-up or general chinwag.
Catching up with friends, family and loved ones over a social beverage is a wonderful thing. However, not everyone wants to, or can, drink coffee or alcohol. Then you have those of us who are just sick of tea or fruit juice. What about us? Enter Six Barrel Soda and their fantastic range of boutique locally made sodas. The Celery Tonic in particular is remarkable. Celery, cucumber and apple extracted into a concentrate base. Throw in some freshly carbonated soda water, and you've got a delicious and refreshing drink with just the right about of that crispy fizzy taste. A+
Six Barrel Soda Co. is a haven amidst stormy weather in Wellington. While Six Barrel can be seen perched above Hope Bros. on Dixon St., the entrance to this bit of carbonated heaven is actually just up Eva St. Once inside, you're literally above all the drudgery of Courtenay Place. If the height doesn't make you giddy, the sodas will. Stick to classics like vanilla cream, raspberry & lemon, or (my new favorite!) kola nut, or get a bit more daring with a seasonal offering. Six Barrel is great for lunch or a light dinner, as its miniature kitchen proves more than adequate for whipping up an incredible halloumi burger. As the name suggests, these burgers are mini, so go for the two burger combo if you're feeling starved. Pickle slices and a recent upgrade to sea salt fries (rather than crisps) finish off the meal. Bring a book or choose from the stack on hand if you're in an introspective mood. A thoughtful space filled with light wood, rows of bottled syrupy goodness, and an expanse of windows filtering in whatever sun peeks between the clouds, Six Barrel never disappoints.
