This amazing little eatery is named after it's owner. Tatsushi worked as a chef in many traditional Japanese restaurants, before coming to New Zealand with the dream of opening up his own.

Tatsushi is authentic Japanese that uses the seasons as a guide, the menu changes monthly (sometimes daily) to reflect that.

The highlight is their home-made tofu, that once you try it, you'll be dreaming about it days later.

If you’re looking for the best Japanese in Wellington, this is the place. The ramen day here is incredibly popular. The food doesn’t break the bank but is delicious, fresh and well presented. The sushi is great and fresh, and theres something on the menu for everyone involved, the vegetarian dishes here are awesome if that’s your thing.

These guys are committed to traditional and delicious Japanese food. You must try their house made tofu, it will blow your mind and you’ll never go back to the rubbery, tasteless store bought stuff again. Keeping with Japanese tradition all their seafood is fresh daily. Their raw fish bowl is packed with delicate slices of fish and their sushi is the best in town.

I still miss Shinobi (RIP) but gotta say that Tatsushi now easily takes out the title for most authentic Japanese in town. The menu seems to change daily so is handwritten, they make their own tofu and occasional special ramen days.... mmmmm ramen. Nice low key atmosphere too, very homely and modest.

Tatsushi make all their tofu in house and it is the best in town. A traditional Japanese restaurant that is undeservedly flying under the radar

Tatshu have a single day for ramen each month. You should probably do whatever it takes to get there. The noodles are fresh and springy and the broth is delicious. They are gently accompanied by slivers of belly pork, a perfectly semi-boiled half-egg and some seaweed. A simple but transcendent dish in a cozy, gauzy restaurant.
