The New Zealand film festival is one of my favourite events in Auckland. It hosts a carefully curated range of diverse films from around the world. The movies are played in theatres Auckland wide, the Civic being my favourite venue. There’s nothing quite like going to this grandiose theatre to watch a movie. It’s twinkling, starry ceiling, extravagant decorations and plush seating make for an enjoyable experience.

The Civic is hands down one of the best venues in Auckland, a fact I was reminded of when I saw soul legend Bobby Womack perform there recently. The theatre itself is beautiful, and has been designed to give a great view of the stage no matter where you're sitting. Also, the staff are really friendly and helpful, and there are 'stars' in the ceiling. Wins all 'round!

Babel (words) is an exquisite dance-theatre masterpiece that was created by two of Europe’s hottest dancers slash choreographers. After a sell-out season as the must-see show in the 2012 Sydney Festival, in March 2013 Babel (words) is coming to Auckland Arts Festival for its New Zealand premiere. Babel (words) explores the world of language and the languages of the world. Beneath a towering set of aluminium cubes designed by artist Antony Gormley, the 18 dancers, who speak 15 languages between them, form fierce yet fragile rhythms as they transform their bodies into a gorgeous expression of culture and identity. For the first time in 10 years iconic band Garbage is returning to New Zealand for up-close and personal rock shows in Auckland and Wellington. World renowned for their incredible live rock shows, Garbage has also sold over 12 million albums worldwide, performed in over thirty-five countries and will continue to tour extensively worldwide in 2013. Trust me, it’s going to be anything but garbage.

Brilliant show loved every minute

My first time in the Civic was last night seeing MAry Poppins and it was just the most amazing venue. It was so wonderfully decorated that it was a marvel just to see it. I was blown away at how lovely it was. The staff were fantastic and knew exactly where we were sitting and directed us easily there. The theater was lovely and clean.

Took mum here couple of weeks back to see Mary Poppins, great night out.  Theatre is well planned, we were about half way back but had a great view, comfy seats, not to pricey drink at interval, great show, brilliant atmosphere.  Loved it.

Any show seen at The Civic has a touch of magic added to it by this wonderful setting.  I especially love the starry sky ceiling.  The rest of the theatre is exceptional as well with a touch of grandeur from former times.  It's worth getting to any performance here early just to enjoy the wonderful theatre.

Civic is memories as a child and still holds the same character to date. absolutely beautiful interior, kept tidy and in theatrical style
