What I love most about this place is the outside tables in the sun. We arived here with some family from Wellington for brunch last Sunday. There were no tables available outside so we sat inside but in the sun ( behind a clear pvc cover) which was divine. The adults at one table & Kids at another. Fantastic!! Three of us had the bacon benedict and one the big breakfast. All were very good - nice bread they were served on, tons of hollandaise and a very good sauce at that, good crispy bacon, my only quibble being it was a bit cold when served. I love piping hot food so always notice this. We had a great bottle of an Aussie shiraz and coffees to make it a very pleasant brunch. The staff were attentive & pleasant enough. Only complaint from the kids was they didn't get their free ice cream & goodie which came with the kids menu. However we asked when leaving and they received the goodie bag. Felt we shouldn't have had to ask and perhaps should have got a discount for no ice cream. Overall though this is still a fav of mine for breakfast/brunch on a sunny day.
It’s a fairly quiet Friday evening down this end of the Viaduct when we pay a visit to the Waterfront Café. A few drinks and perhaps a bite to eat were on the cards—nothing outlandish, but still an opportunity to get out of the house for some much-needed down time. Actually, my family and I were going to venture into one of the other bars down this part of town, however, having withdrawn the final remnants of anything resembling a savings account from the ATM, I spied the Waterfront Café. You see, unless you are a regular visitor to the Maritime Museum or already acquainted with the Americas Cup boat towering over this focal area, chances are you’d hardly know the Waterfront Café existed—such is the distraction of the competing bars in the vicinity. Immediate impressions were okay. Nice, soft mood lighting illuminated the booths along one side, leading to a large open area dotted with tables occupied by more than a few diners. And then there is the proximity to the water and harbour views. With the lights glistening off the water, this had potential to be an intimate setting but, on this night, it wasn’t so: smack bang in the middle of winter, the venue had battened down the hatches and pulled down screens to shut out Auckland’s shoddy weather. Still, it has definite potential in summer. We grabbed our drinks, ordered some nachos from the varied menu, and settled into a booth. There are some great deals to be had here: daily 4—7pm happy hour prices offering half price tap and bottled beers; house wines and spirits; and a variety of platters. The Waterfront Café doesn’t attract the ritz, glam (or some of the crustiness) that other venues attract in the area—it’s a simple, middle of the road bar with enough appeal to warrant a visit when you next find yourself in party HQ.
Went here on a busy Sunday and sat out of the deck; they have a really nice spot down by the water with nice views. The staff were really friendly and attentitive. We only ordered coffees (which were very strong - depends if you like that) and nachoes to share (could have done with a bit more beef). But generally it was really nice.
