My boyfriend brought me here pretty much 'just cos'. What a treat!! We both got the 6 course set menu, as it had everything on the menu that I wanted to try – quail, duck breast, goat's cheese and beetroot tart.... mmmmmmmyumm!! Each dish was absolutely stunning, delicious, perfect and had a 'wow, I haven't tried that before' element. They also all had the 'ooo it all just goes so nicely together' factor. If I had to pick a dish to recommend, I think it would have to be the 2nd dessert (yep, the Tasting Menu has TWO desserts! Bliss. Textured Chocolate – caramel, hazelnut, malt powder, mandarin. An amazing plate, and the perfect way to end the evening. Do it!!

Great food, great atmosphere, great service.

Apparently I had mentioned I wanted to come here for the last few years so when our anniversary rolled around I was finally given my wish.  To make it even more amazing we booked The Langham hotel nearby so we could roll into a taxi and not have to drive anywhere for I knew I wouldn't be up to that! Luckily I had rung them to confirm the booking & discovered the full 9 course degustation menu took 3.5 - 4 hours so I changed our booking to an earlier 6pm.  We felt if we were coming here we had to do the full 9 course chef menu with matching wines. (Thank god we knew it took 3.5 hours before hand).  I also saw online the tables weren't as intimately placed as expected so I asked for a table against a wall.  I am very glad I did.  I loved our setting. All guests get a complimentary starter ( a pumpkin soup & goats cheese balls today).. course #1.  Divine.  We then proceeded to eat our way through the 9 course menu ( add the bread roll then the amuse bouche and it made 12 courses!!! Its hard to describe the experience but it is one you MUST try at least once in your lifetime. Classy, divine, impeccable, unique are the words I think of.  French Cafe, I thank you for a wonderful food experience.  One I will definitely be coming back for.

We decided that next time only one of us would get the matching wines as I was **** by the 4th glass...was lovely to experience but next time we will get matching to 2 or 3 only for me :D

This is one of Auckland’s best! Fantastic food and service

Love the food here, the Karl Maughan prints are  so heavenly I had to purchase one for myself! Love the juxtaposition from the exterior, location and facade is very unassuming, to the interior.

We have tried everywhere but French cafe still reigns supreme.

Definitely the place to come for a very special occasion. My partner and I split an entree, had a main each, 3 cocktails between us and a lager – came to just under $200. Not bad for the quality however the portion sizes were on the small side. I have to say that the atmosphere was a little bit uncomfortable; despite being from a fine dining background, my partner and I (both early 20s) did feel a little out of place and were almost too scared to share a joke

I had a birthday dinner here not too long ago. Didn’t manage to do the 10 course chef tasting menu but our dishes were really amazing. I can still remember the delicate use of amuse bouche and interesting foams that were the highlights of our meal. The decor is clean and sleek and the service is impeccable. This place really epitomises fine dining in Auckland.

Not actually a café. Auckland’s best contemporary European cuisine. The three and a half hour degustation with matching wines and six friends I had recently was probably my most enjoyable lunch ever.
