The Portlander is part of Rydges Hotel but this fact is usually overlooked due to its popularity with diners in Wellington. Those looking for buffet brunch cafes in Wellington should definitely add it to the list. With towering eggs benedict, perfectly made barista coffee, fresh juices, seasonal fruit platters and hearty mueslis, you can't go wrong.

$3 large takeaway coffees!!

The Portlander introduced its Moolander burger for this year’s Wellington On A Plate’s Burger Wellington competition. With its Wagyu patty with mushroom sauce, gruyere, caramelised onions, roasted tomato and parmesan crisp on sweet brioche bun, it was such a hit during Wellington On A Plate it’s been added to the restaurant’s standard menu. At $25, it’s on the pricy side, but my dining companions and I were not disappointed.

A classy establishment situated close to Parliament, the restaurant specialises mainly in meat. Deliciously seared steaks, umami-filled burgers, and bacony goodness abound. Head there for a drink and some smokey beef. Totes worth it.

Great lunch prices.

This is a huge improvement over what used to be here. The food is great, staff welcoming and drinks free flowing. Try their burgers… $12 with fries… Awesome with a wee Heineken. :-)

What better way to enjoy a scrummy lookong buffet breakfast, than right in the middle of the city situated underneath the rydges hotel
