A magic setting on the fringe of the forest. The food is great. Something different to other restaurants and great service. Also delish desserts. #shoutme

CLose to home, amazing reviews! Cant wait to try it!

I am so curious to find out what all my Westie (and town ) friends are talking about...in fact I peruse the menu often and think yes one day me and the fiance will get to trial this gem in the Waitakere ranges! We are on a tight budget so have been saving a little bit, we definitely will make this a date night to be had very soon! Have heard so many wonderful reviews, just have to try it out! #shoutme

Beautiful environs - nothing better than working up an appetite after an exhausting bush walk or day at the beach (Piha/Bethells) then on the way home, having the lovely food at the Refreshment Room laid in front of you... #shoutme

Great fresh food, always something different and in Waitakere

My dad lives out of town so when he was up in Auckland, I took him for an early Father's Day meal to The Refreshment Room. He's got a simple palette and isn't a fussy eater - in fact, he once told me not to take him to any restaurant that puts "drizzles" on the plate because it means the cuisine is too modern! But therein lies the beauty of this treasured gem of a rustic Italian restaurant, nestled in the heart of the Waitakere Ranges. At The Refreshment Room, it's all about good, honest flavours, fresh, seasonal dishes and absolutely no bull. Perfect for daddy dearest! And while my husband worked hard in the car on the way there to convince him to order the steak (a top cut, served with fantastic smashed potatoes and rocket from the kitchen garden out back), Dad instead let his inner gourmand go wild and opted for an array of Italian treats. When the chickpea and polenta fries arrived as a starter, we had to playfully fight over them because they were so good and he declared his main of braised lamb gnocchi to be excellent and with no drizzles in sight! He even ordered dessert too, which is saying something for man who doesn't have a big sweet tooth. Thanks The Refreshment Room for helping me treat my Dad right!

Great food, awesome service, and beautiful setting!

The crispy potatoes!

If like hubby and I, you've been together for awhile then you can't go past a romantic evening at this popular Scenic Drive establishment. Another one of Auckland’s true best for destination dining, it’s all about teaming Italian flavours with local, seasonal, fresh produce at The Refreshment Room. The staff are efficient and friendly, and we raved about our meals. Plus because it was Thursday night, they had their Love our Locals special running - two courses for $30. It’s why I had to indulge in the bitter chocolate espresso mousse with salted caramel ice cream - I even took a pic because it was too good-looking (and tasting) not to!

If you haven't yet visited the Refreshment Room, now's probably the time to mention that their Thursday night special made this amazingly affordable restaurant a whole lot more affordable! Their new season menu is up, and it boasts some great new pasta dishes. Whether you're feeling ravenously carnivorous, or after some creative and rich vegetarian fare, they're as good as they've ever been. I've also had a chance to sample the brunch menu a couple of times now, and each time I've left impressed. It's pleasantly unorthodox and well worth a try if you find yourself craving a change. And let's face it, where else in Auckland offers a view which compares at that time of day?
