The Wine Cellar

The wine cellar feels very homely. The dim red lighting and underground location contribute to a unique atmosphere for a bar in Auckland. It has an old worldy charm, and it sort of reminds me of pubs you see people go to in old European movies.  The feijoa cider is delicious. They have a lot of live music, varying in style. I like to go on dates here and watch folk music sitting in comfortable couches and drinking tea.

The Best bar in Auckland hands-down. shouldnt even be raving about it so it remains a hidden treasure. Cider & Wine

Great place downstaiirs in St Kevins that is perfect to catch up and have a quiet drink at but also has an ecclectic mix of live music playing so often, and some of the best gigs I've been to in Ak. Worth a visit if you've never been!

The Wine Cellar in St Kevin's Arcade on K Road in Auckland has always been one of my favorite bars in the city for catching up with friends for a quiet drink or seeing some almost always great acoustic or not-too-loud bands from the comfort of their sofas! The atmosphere inside is dark and brooding. Which can be surprisingly enjoyable. You feel as if you're part of a secret world that only a lucky few have stumbled upon. Which is quite true considering how little signage indicates there is a bar down there, There are some great craft beers and cider on tap and the wine selection is very particular and probably won't be found elsewhere.

I found Whammy/Wine Cellar a bit confusing to find my way around when I was first introduced to it but love the atmosphere. Great bands every weekend and heaps of comfy 'found' couches in the Wine Cellar to curl up on. Bar staff are always friendly and helpful too.

Great place to have a nibble and drink with a friend / watch a band / unwind. Nothing pretentious, does what it does well. I love it that it has a ton of areas you can mill between depending on your mood. A mile and a half better than most decor-ugh bars - good beverage selection. Music is quiet enough to talk - always friendly faces.

I really enjoy the Wine Cellar. I found the bar staff a little grumpy and unfriendly to begin with, but I persevered with it because I really like the beers and the music there. As I got to know the staff (and probably vice versa) a bit better I discovered they're usually up for a good natter. The tapas are great value too. The pickled onions are perfect with a Crouchers Pale Ale.

I've enjoyed many shows in the backroom at The Wine Cellar. Not many venues around where you get to lay back on a couch while watching a performance. Makes even average performances better. Highly recommended.

The Wine Cellar is a K Road Must Try.  Not for all, perhaps.  I would be unlikely to take my Nana.  They have made a few changes lately and I think they are for the best.  Unfortunately the giant wall-sized wine list has gone and been replaced by a paper version - one of my favourite things about the bar in the past. I usually head there for the music - Singer/Songwriter types as well as larger bands are the most likely acts to see there.  The music venue itself is small which lends an intimacy to the act of being in the audience.  Another one of my favourite things. The only thing that I think could make it better is adding more seating to the front bar.  There is plenty of seating 'outside' in the smoking area - but not everyone smokes and and not everyone wants to stand all night while they enjoy their wines. Still - I'll continue to attend as often as I can.
