Saddle up for a great day out weaving your way around the wineries of Bridge Pa and Gimblett Gravels.
Be at Sileni Estate Winery from 11am armed with your bike, sensible cycling attire, and a saddle bag full of thirsty enthusiasm. Enjoy a little pre-ride hype with food king Ray McVinnie, before setting off on The Wineries Ride where you will peddle your way around Bridge Pa and Gimblett Gravels, enjoying some of Hawke’s Bay’s most beautiful wine country as you go.
There will be 11 cellar doors offering tempting “available only on the day” reasons to stop; pre-release tastings, library tastings, picnic boxes and seasonal platters.
By the end of the ride you’ll be ready for a post ride wind-down party at Trinity Hill with live music from Naked Gun and foodie delights from Ya Bon French Baker and the Pipi Truck. There are great giveaway prizes on the day including an $2,500 Electrolux BBQ. Your $20 registration fee includes free groovy drink bottle, glass of Sileni fizz, access to all the cellar door specials and entry to the Trinity Hill party.
There will be a big marquee at Trinity Hill so don't worry about the rain!
The Ngaruroro River once flowed across these plains leaving a legacy of old river terraces and a gravelly terroir, now known as the famous Gimblett Gravels region with a distinct wine style. It costs nothing to spend some time wandering and cycling on the easily accessible off-road bike and walking trails that connect the Bridge Pa Ngatarawa Triangle and Gimblett Gravels wine growing districts, but it will be too tempting not to stop somewhere to sample. It’s easy to spend a whole day experiencing the rural lifestyle, tasting and eating, and maybe even staying a couple of days at a classy boutique lodging. I love it because there are so many great cellar doors in the area. Hire bikes are available from On Yer Bike Tours.
