Popped in for a wee dram the other night and can confirm Woodpecker Hill is as phenomenal for a couple drinks as it is for dinner. The selection is INSANE with an endless list of American whiskeys which are sure to tickle the fancy of even the most discerning connoisseurs. The girlfriend was kept happy as well as they stock an equally impressive range of wines and craft beers. There's no better spot in Auckland for good food and good whiskey!
Woodpecker Hill is like restaurant heaven for me. The interior is all faux animal fur, stacked up firewood, and roughly hewn copper lamps making you feel like you're eating in some billionaire's home in Southern Texas. Then there's the food. Succulent, slow-cooked meats in a variety of Asian-style dishes create an insane fusion of two delicious cuisines. I had the dry red duck curry with barbecued duck and wild ginger and bravely asked for "Thai spicy". Not only was this curry unlike anything I've ever tasted (in a good way) but they really cranked up the spice for me and I was hiccuping by the time I'd finished. My partner had the burnt bits curry which was equally delicious – I loved the combo of curry flavours with succulent juicy American-style beef brisket. The drinks selection is very respectable with an amazing selection of whiskeys and some awesome craft beers on offer. A must-visit for lovers of Asian fusion food, good whiskey and general awesomeness.
