Xian Food Bar on Anzac Ave is a hidden gem of a place along a quieter side of Auckland's CBD. With a menu of specialities from the Xi'an region of China, their braised pork biang biang noodles and lamb burgers are definite must-try items.

Pull up a chair in the unremarkable dining room and order your food through their hilariously retro ordering machine at each table. You can then watch as the chef skilfully hand-pulls your noodles to order in the open kitchen. Perfect when paired with their complementary green tea. It's lucky that they make great leftovers too, as the portions are so generous you will be taking some home with you.

A friend took me here today for the best-value noodle dish I’ve ever had in Auckland. $9.50 for a big bowl of seriously tasty handmade noodles with pulled pork and bok choy. Fresh, spicy and filling!

Hand pulled noodles / Chinese Burgers - do yourself a favour and order both of these when you go in. As a city dweller, this place is one of my goto’s for a flavour filled, fast and delicious dinner. The large noodle is more than enough for two, with the vege noodles bursting with goodness - exceptional value, worth a crack!

It was pure fluke that brought us here. We were staying at the nearby Copthorne Hotel for my daughters birthday and went for a walk in search of lunch. We stumbled into this little unobtrusive shop and had what could only be described as one of the best spicy Chinese meals we'd ever had. So much so that I've been craving the flavours ever since. We had a burger thing which was very hot & spicy with a flavour which left me wanting more. Then a bowl of the best noodles I've ever had. Don't ask me what they were or the number on the menu but I sure I hope I remember when I go next time. YUMMY YUMMY YUMMY is all I can say.

Was it the braised pork? #47 for the win!

I always get the same thing whenever I come here - the braised pork biang biang noodles. It’s a big bowl of chewy noodles and melt-in-your-mouth pork with a hint of sharp coriander and chilli heat. It’s cool how the chef hand-pulls each order of noodles before tossing it in the wok. I love it so much that I have cravings for it when I’m away from home!

hand made noodles and such good value
