The sticky black rice with fresh fruit and coconut cream my be though of more as a dessert than brunch, but it's my go to when i'm in this hood.

For brunch on the run try the tuna toastie toasted (sans cheese in my case). Simple and delcious.

Yum Char is traditionally eaten as a morning tea, or as we like to call it - brunch. I'd eat Yum Char anytime of the day or night, but at around 11.30am is ideal for fresh dumplings delciousness.

This award winning Japanese restaurant always lives up to it's reputation. Their drinks menu is varied with the best selection of sake in town, and their degustation menu is exceptional value for money and able to be easily adapted to dietary requirements.  

Head sommelier Nick Harding is passionate about wine. He is always on the hunt for new and exciting vintages and updates the One Tree Grill wine list on a weekly basis. This requires it to appear on an iPad, rather than the well-thumbed leather wallet, and means that you can expand your palate with every visit under Nick’s watchful eye.

I've re-fallen in love with Auckland lately, and it's largely due to great new spots like the Blue Breeze Inn. Part of the Ponsonby Central foodie hub, they've tried something new and totally nailed it. Modern chinese fare in a casually cool environment with excellent decor (even more excellent cocktails), great staff and a reasonable price point. Be warned though, you may be waiting a while for a table!

For a non dairy eater a French menu can be a hard thing to navigate but I am yet to be let down at Sunday Painters. The daily fish is always exquisite with a wine list to match, and the staff are always charming.

Hidden behind an unassuming large white door on Symonds St is a dining experience not quite like anything else in Auckland. French cuisine meets Japanese degustation flair - done exceptionally well.

Miller's just do coffee. And they do it damn well. All from a unassuming spot on Cross St loaded with as much character as their brews.

Vegan banana bread and almond milk chai latte. Addicted.

Anyone who serves eggs and soldiers for breakfast gets a thumbs up from me. If only it came with marmite….

People who take the time to roast their own beans just do coffee better, and this place is no exception.
