How KiwiSaver works
KiwiSaver is a voluntary, work-based savings scheme to help New Zealanders save for retirement. Members contribute a percentage of their gross salary or wages — typically 3%, 4%, 6%, or 8%.
Employers must contribute at least 3% of your gross salary (excluding the employer superannuation contribution tax). If you contribute 4% or more, some employers may match at a higher rate.
The government provides an annual member tax credit of up to $521.43 for eligible members aged 18-65. The government pays 50 cents for every $1 you contribute, up to a maximum of $1,042.86 of contributions per year.
This calculator shows your annual employee contribution, employer contribution, government tax credit, and total annual savings into your KiwiSaver account.
