How New Zealand GST works
Goods and Services Tax (GST) in New Zealand is a flat 15% tax applied to most goods and services. It has been set at 15% since 1 October 2010. If your business turnover exceeds $60,000 in any 12-month period, you are required to register for GST with Inland Revenue.
Adding GST (exclusive → inclusive): multiply the net amount by 1.15. For example, $1,000 + 15% GST = $1,150.
Removing GST (inclusive → exclusive): divide the total by 1.15 to find the net, then subtract the net from the total to find the GST. For example, $1,150 inclusive = $1,000 net + $150 GST.
This calculator handles both directions instantly — just toggle between "Add GST" and "Remove GST" to switch. All calculations are performed locally in your browser, so your figures never leave your device.
