Love the new basement bar, open until four and very friendly. It will definitely be my comedy fest local :-)

Cloud 9 is one of the most successful comedies to emerge out of England in the last thirty years. The time-shifting comedy by the author of Top Girls created a sensation Off-Broadway. Here we are in 1880 darkest but British Africa, as portrayed in old movies, plays and novels. Only with a difference, as this depiction is both a parody and spoof of the Victorian Empire and its rigid attitudes, especially towards sex. There is Clive, a British functionary, his wife Betty (played by a man), their daughter Victoria (a rag doll), Clive’s friend Harry (an explorer), Mrs. Saunders, Clive’s son Edward who still plays with dolls (and is played by a woman) and Joshua a native servant who knows exactly what’s going on. Cloud 9 is a marvelous send up and a non-stop round robin of sexual liaisons. It’s going to be funny and rambunctious - *the* play of the year. Don’t miss it! WHEN  Tuesday 2-Saturday 13th April   COST  Adult $25

Good vibing place to enjoy the fringe festival ! Filled with little hidden quirks and endearing wall art.

The basement’s new foyer is so rad! And they have so many different flavors of booze now! This is such a lovely theatre venue, and it’s defo worth having your pre-show drinks here now!

Consider yourself a Pulp Fiction fan? Don’t miss the runaway hit Fringe Festival show Puppet Fiction. Nodding to the original but with plenty of new material and batty divergences, the show is performed by comedians mastering 40cm tall replicates of all the characters, including Jules Winnfield, Vincent Vega and the iconic Mrs. Mia Wallace. The film has been broken down into the main storylines and each night one 40 minute slice of the film will be played out in its own way. Come for one show and witness the madness as you remember what is was that made this film one of the greatest films of all time. This gem is taking its last bow in only two days, don’t miss out. WHEN Wednesday 27 Feb - Saturday 2 March, 10.00pm PRICE Free / Koha

“Sam and Jelly know the world is full of beasts. They've seen them, and they've been seen. Showing at the Basement Studio from February 25th to March 1st, Wild Beasts will follow these two little girls as they run from the beasts they know, right into the arms of the beasts they don't... begging the question: is it really better the devil you know?” For one week only, Wild Beasts promises to transform the cosy Basement Studio into a whimsical word that is both childish and dark. Starring Sez Niederer, Katrina Wesseling, Andrew Parker, Kelly Gilbride, Sian van Asbeck and Luke Wilson, this play is sure to delight and creep in equal measure. 25th-1st March 8.30pm

This is a cool little underground theatre. Been here a bunch for Comedy Fest shows. Always a god little vibe. Also, a nice little bar whether you are seeing a show or not

Had so much fun here. And really well priced drinks.

Had a really awesome night here (thanks very much to the Localist team for the tickets!). On the night they were making margaritas which were delicious and accompanied a night of constant giggles. I am really keen to head back to see a few more shows here. The staff were all really friendly and laid back which made my group all feel really welcome and enjoy the new experience.

Went to the Basement for a comedy night, wasn't sure what to expect as it looks a bit small and dark from the outside, but I was blown away by the atmosphere inside. Suitably raw decor, great little bar, and a friendly and up for it crowd. Will definitely return.
