As a Canadian, I can’t have a best brunch spots list and not include a bagel restaurant! However, for a long time, I just couldn’t find bagels in Auckland worthy of a mention. Then a friend introduced me to Best Ugly Bagels: Montreal style, hand rolled and woodfired bagels baked fresh every day right in Auckland CBD! These gourmet bagels are absolutely heavenly - heavenly I say! Just the smell of freshly baked bagels when you enter the shop will have you salivating. Choose from plain or filled bagels to eat in-store, or take a bag home with you.

These bagels are incredible. They are a far cry from the sad excuse for bagels you find at the supermarket, they are so chewy and delicious. The range of toppings is small but perfect. I had the TAB - sweet cherry tomato slices, a generous serving of avocado and basil on top, with delicious oil on top too. The best bagel is the sesame one, but I'd like to try the cinnamon one too. The hazelnut spread is divine, so thick and rich. The coffee is great too. Perfect Sunday morning destination!!!

I love basil, tomato and avocado on top but you are a sweet tooth i recommend peanut butter with jam!! Great place for lunch with friends or afternoon snack

Yum lunch. Great variety of bagels to choose from, my recommendation is the basil, tomato with avocado! Or if you feel like something sweet try peanut butter with jam

Props to Al Brown! One of my favourite additions to the akl food scene, this place is awesome! The Yodi, with pastrami, pickles, mustard and melted swiss cheese is delish - but my fav has to be the King which really lives up to its name - generous amounts of salmon and cream cheese. The kitchen is open which adds to the cool vibe of this place, you get to peek at the process behind it all.

I love this place, as do many others, judging by the queues out the door when we visited here recently. The team of staff are fun to watch as they each play their part in producing delicious homemade bagels with a variety of toppings. The coffee is reasonably priced too, and on a sunny day sitting at one of their outdoor tables would be a pleasant experience. We managed to find one of the few seats inside as it was raining while we were here. We'll be back!

This place bustles with energy and you can watch the staff working in the background to form the bagels from a giant lump of dough, before boiling and baking in a woodfired oven. The avocado bagel I had was divine, best bagel ever and great coffee for a very reasonable price. Only problem is they are so good you'll probably want another!

These things are delicious, even the standard PB & J!

Bagels are one of those things I like in theory, but so often they're too tough or heavy, or whatever. Best Ugly's Montreal style bagels hit the mark in every way! These were delicious - and that 'homemade hazelnut spread' one is off the hook.

A true artisan bagel is a joy to eat, and the best in Auckland are most definitely to be had at Best Ugly Bagels in the CityWorks Depot complex. You can get a classic with cream cheese or something fancier like Coronation Chicken and Rocket, and in my opinion they are best enjoyed in house and fresh from the oven. A must visit if ever there was one.
