I love the rugged coastline of the west and I can sit and watch the wild surf for ages.  Im not sure if I would be willing to go swimming though!  Its a great beach to walk/run down as its nice and flat with hard sand.  Its just a bit of a bummer if the wind is blowing the wrong way.  Just down the road is a neat walk out to these big sand dunes.  It feels like your on another planet!  There is a nice lake you can walk around too.  Looks like fun to take your boogie board and slide down the steep sand dune.  We really enjoy taking a Sunday drive out to bethells beach and then swing by Coatesville to the old Pub for a lazy beer on the way home!

Growing up out this way as a child we spent a bit of time walking and exploring this beach, the big waves and tide along with the sand dunes and the big wide open space to walk makes this such a fun outing. You can ever stop at the sand dunes and lake before reaching  the beach and there are walkways up the hill to beautiful views! It really is a remarkable place but it can definitely be dangerous on a rough day so the sea is only safe for strong swimmers but there is still lots to fill your day with.

I used to live out here and this beach is awesome. There is so much to explore, there are caves which are fun to go look in at low tide.  If you walk round to the right hand side of the beach and walk over to the next bay there are usually surfers you can watch.   This beach is massive so perfect for a big group of people going for a picnic/day out.  Bethell's is a very rugged West  Auckland beach that is also dangerous and is a bit far away from getting help in a hurry so be careful!!!
