This involves the placement of super fine needles into trigger points within the muscle to release tension and ease painful hyper-irritable spots. Not to be confused with acupuncture which works on the traditional Chinese meridians, myofascial dry needling works on the myofascial system and is western based. Very gentle, very effective. Incorporate into your massage treatment session for optimum results.
Myofascial dry needling is a therapy that has been adapted from acupuncture. It uses fine needles applied to the musculoskeletal system in order to deactivate myofascial trigger points. A myofascial trigger point can be defined as a hyperirritable spot in a skeletal muscle that is painful when compressed and can cause referred pain or tenderness, motor dysfunction and autonomic phenomena. However, you should not confuse dry needling with acupuncture as they are actually two different things. Acupuncture uses points that lie along the body’s meridians or energy channels, while myofascial dry needling uses points that are defined by western based anatomy and physiology. Myofascial dry needling is great as it can help to establish a painless range of movement during the treatment. Watch this space!
I'm so grateful to have found Liz at Body Mechanics Massage Therapy. I had my first massage last week and I felt the benefit immediately. I had been struggling with neck and shoulder aches and pains and problems with my arms. Like I said I felt the benefit from my first visit and rebooked straight away. Liz did a professional consultation to assess any health issues and problem areas and after my massage she showed me some simple exercises to do and gave me a Home Care Information sheet - I'm really impressed and would highly recommend.
