This pub is not only great for the food, beer and wine, and friendly kiwi atmosphere, but in summer they are a host to heaps of live music including bands that are nationally famous! They love to celebrate local talent that’s paired with you enjoying a kiwi beer and an awesome meal like their famous fish and chips! It honestly puts some seafood specialists to shame it’s that good!

With so many deep fried options served with fries such as hotdogs, squid rings, fish bites, and of course the famous chicken nugget, any kid would be ecstatic to eat lunch here; battered food was my absolute go to when I was younger! Theres such great options for everyone else too, like for lunch there are four different egg dishes and also the choice of a steak or chicken open sandwich, with heaps more!

Although Okura is known for the number one destination in summer, Butlers Reef is definitely a stop you need to make in winter. Try their special Monteith’s beef and mushroom pie; it just screams “I’m the perfect meal in winter”. It’s conveniently placed next to a bottle store that has all your favourite cider, beer, and of course red wine!

Such an awesome venue that draws some very talented musicians. Awesome place for concerts on a hot Summer's night - especially on New Year's Eve. Love this place!

Butlers Reef is a classic place to come for lunch where you know you’re going to get delicious food every time. Just looking at their menu gets me excited, who doesn’t love a creamy corn fritter with avocado, bacon salsa and sour cream! That to me screams a perfect start to a Sunday morning. Butlers Reef sits in the village of Oakura, which is only a 20 minute drive from New Plymouth; and to be honest, even if it was longer I would still make the drive!

Nothing builds an appetite like surfing along the coastline of New Zealand. When I want to refuel my body along the surf highway I pop down to Butlers. Usually busy with locals and tourists alike, they all come for the tasty pub grub, cold beer on tap and live bands. Easily one of the top summer spots in NZ.
