Chaddy’s Charters is a bit of a special spot for Taranaki, for it holds information about our coast, and the Sugar Loaf Islands that can’t be found anywhere else! The boat ride out to the Sugar Loaf Island can be a bit choppy, but once you get there you'll get to see the islands with the penguins and seals! Back on shore, there’s a little sheltered building separate from the shop which tells you all about our marine life and their habitats, it’s really awesome and informative!
Chaddy’s Charters can take you and your dad on a little adventure around the famous Sugar Loaf Islands outside Port Taranaki. These are the eroded island remains of volcanic activity from around 1.75 million years ago. As well as sharing a great experience together, you will also learn about the history of the Sugar Loaf’s and get a picture on board if you’re lucky! The islands are home to many seals, a few penguins and over 11 species of sea birds. Be sure to take your camera to capture the experience, and if you’re prone to sea sickness definitely take some motion sickness pills beforehand!
Chaddy is a character and a half! Chugging out of the port around the islands in his old English lifeboat was one of the coolest things we did in the Naki. Heaps of seals were lounging on the rocks and when we weren't watching the wildlife, Chaddy was keeping us entertained with stories that have to be heard to be believed. And even then they are quite unbelievable.
