Clark's Cafe is hidden away on the mezzanine floor of the Wellington City central library. Which means it's perfectly located when you want to grab some quite time with a book and a decent coffee.

They have a big selection of cabinet food which will fill that empty hole. And as it's in the library you won't be distracted with loud noises and the craziness often found in other central city cafes.

Even the kids will be kept amused while you take a breather with the larger playpen filled with toys.

What Clark’s lacks in ambiance – it’s on the top floor of the library, and as such lacking in natural light; you have to line up with a tray – it makes up for in consistently excellent cabinet food, and its range of pies are no exception. The chicken, courgette and blue cheese, straight from the pie heater with golden flaky pastry, is my favourite. And if I feel like a treat I’ll get one of their excellent sweet muffins or slices for after.

Never knew this place existed until I popped in to borrow a couple of books. Decided to grab a coffee after getting my read on and ended up staying for an hour with a good cup of People's coffee.

The cafe has always been a staple of mine - great cabinet food and coffee. There is a play area for bigger kids and round the corner is a really good parents room with good change facilities and good feeding chairs. If I have to get out of the house on a rainy day this is my fave place to go - I can park in the basement at the library, feed and change baby in the parents room, (go to the loo with the buggy in the disabled toilet - I know, I know, but sometimes you just gotta go, amiright?) and then have a fantastic coffee and good sandwich at Clark’s. We can also get our library books and DVDs. The library does story time on Wednesday mornings for small bubs.

Clark’s Cafe, in the Wellington City Library, has a wide range of cabinet food but its tasty and affordable cheese scone is a safe bet for a light lunch or morning tea. There’s a couple of great baristas there, too, working with People’s Coffee. It’s best to go before 12.30pm if you want to beat the lunchtime rush.

On the first floor of the Wellington City Library, Clark’s Cafe is not the trendiest of spots, but the Peoples Coffee is surprisingly – and consistently – excellent. There can be a bit of a wait at lunchtime as the office workers in the areas get their sammies, but if you’re in the market for a quality coffee to go, it’s a safe choice.

Clark’s Cafe has an impressive selection of self-serve cabinet food, and is a great choice for an affordable but delicious sandwich, pie, panini, muffin or scone to take away for lunch at your desk. As a coffee date destination, though, it’s best for those you hope will resolve comfortably in the friend zone: it would be hard to read a future together into club sandwiches at the Wellington City Library cafe.

A cafe in Wellington's Central Library? Genius! For those days when you really can't be bothered to leave the library even for a bite to eat, pop up to Clark's for a flat white and a toastie. You'll have to check your book out first if you want to keep reading while you snack. But don't go just for convenience's sake-- their millionaire's are pretty much the best in town.

Great choice of food, with the best scones ever!

Great cafe in the library!
