This is our little natural wonder, although it’s not that small, we like to thing it’s a special addition to our region! Going in the early hours when daylight is only just breaking makes it such a beautiful sight, it’s still a bit misty from the cold night but the light just shines through. The trail leading to the waterfall is nice too, it’s not too strenuous so most people can do it without any problems.

Dawson Falls is often a popular tourist attraction and people are always wanting photos with the breathtaking waterfall behind them, I know I’ve had my fair share! At 18 metres high, it’s not the highest waterfall in New Zealand but it’s still pretty big for ol’ Taranaki! The Kapuni stream is what flows into this waterfall and is used as a renewable energy source, powering the Dawson Falls Power Lodge!

Dawson falls is a great destination spot for school trips, enthusiastic hikers, and everybody in between. The rocks are a bit slippery as they are constantly wet from the waterfall, so be careful; but if you get slightly drenched it’s all part of the experience! It’s great for taking pictures and I’ve always had an enjoyable trip there.

A stunning waterfall not far from the visitor's carpark, but highly recommend you keep walking and do one of the awesome walks around the Eastern side of the mountain.
