If BATS is the scrappy 18 year old brother, Downstage is the aloof by still smart later-20s sister. Finding all the smart slick shows from around the city and around the country and gives them a second life in the hallowed and intricate Hannah Playhouse. These shows might be a little too cool at times, but there’s always something to think about at the end of them.

Depending on the show, it’s often not too much of a wallet stretch to get into whatever the latest, mind warping bit of theatre culture playing at Downstage. The good thing about the kind of show that Downstage programmes is that love it or hate it, there’ll always be lots to talk about as you play footsie over coffee afterwards.
