I love Federal Deli for a late-night dinner with friends (cheesecake compulsory) or lunch with my dad. The sandwiches must rate among the best in Auckland. The pastrami is a classic, and they are super generous with the star ingredient, but I really rate the smoked fish sandwich. It includes the thinnest possible layer of incredibly crispy fish skin, which gives the entire sandwich the most mind-blowing, surprising, delicious texture - almost like the feeling of popping candy in your mouth. The turkey on rye could be the best sandwich in Auckland though, I'm not a huge walnut fan but in this context they are what makes the sandwich. Nice one Federal Deli, I wish you could pack my lunchbox every day.
Located just by the base of the Auckland Sky Tower, this premium diner pays homage to the 1950's style American diner, featuring bottomless coffee and gigantic sodas. The staff, dressed in retro turquoise uniform are extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the entire menu. The Fed is the perfect spot to nurse a coffee (or five) for hours on end.
So stoked to have breakfast at Federal Delicatessen back in my life! Al's awesome establishment is pumping once again with excellent early-morning meals and late-night diner delights. Once you close the doors behind you at the Fed Deli, Americana assaults your senses in every possible way. From the bottomless filter coffee to Al's signature griddle hot cakes, any time is a good time to scoff down his New York deli deliciousness.
