This is our nerd church, the staff are our nerd pastors, the comics and DnD rulebooks are our nerd gospels. We must prostrate ourselves before them. We will and we will do it willingly. WILLINGLY.

It may look like the typical comic shop with it’s rows of intimidating super hero comics and stacks of Magic cards but endure past the thin sheen of enacted stereotype and you’ll find a independent culture dissemination centre that has something for almost everyone and they are very good at finding just the book that’s right for you.

It may come as a bit of a shock but a lot of the films and TV you like these days didn’t originate in those media. They started as comics. And not just the obvious ones like the AVENGERS. From the WALKING DEAD on up, most of the hot new things are comics first. So, where better than feel the pulse of all that hot, bubbling future culture than at Wellington’s best comic book destination Graphic. Don’t let the somewhat grizzly exterior (and interior if I’m honest) dissuade you, the people are friend and the wares are good. Always worth a visit.

Comics. Cards. Action figures. Everything from X-Men to the goddamn Batman.

I've been a regular at Graphic Comics for a few years now. I originally ended up there after backtracking from AMC's The Walking Dead television show to the graphic novel series of the same name it's based on. Graphic Comics just have the most remarkable collection of stock, and crucially for me, a whole bunch of amazing stuff that doesn't involve men in tights fighting other men in tights and masks (ie: superhero comics). Graphic Comics introduced me to incredible graphic novels like Scalped, Love and Rockets, DMZ, The Boys, and the remarkable Humanoids, Pantheon and Cinebooks publishing lines. Incredible storylines and incredible art, what's not to love? The staff are fantastic as well; considered and knowledgeable.

I'm not a huge comic book fan, but I always find walking through Graphic Comics a treat. You can find everything from Tintin to manga, and I suppose in a city as small as Wellington it makes sense that it is the one-stop shop for everything comics. If you find yourself on Cuba St, have a peek inside, even just to marvel at the rows and rows of cover art.
