Hokitika Beach is a gorgeous beach located in Hokitika- the only town centre on the West Coast right by a beach!

Often rough at times, the beach is scattered with driftwood, complimenting the stunning views of New Zealand's highest mountain, Mount Cook.

Enjoy the scenic beach walks and lively picnic areas during the day, and don't forget to check out the beautiful sunset in the evening!

Hokitika Beach is my favourite West Coast beach. Located right next to the township, the beach is a beautiful place for a picnic or bonfire – it’s covered with driftwood, shells and stunning New Zealand jade.

I love Hokitika and I love the Hokitika beach. Not only do they have a really cool view of the Southern Alps, but they have a ‘Hokitika’ sign made out of driftwood!

Love snapper? Then you’ll love Hokitika Beach. If you’re handy with a fishing line then the ocean is your oyster when it comes to fishing for these delicious bottom dwellers. The best place to cast off is at the Hokitika river mouth, FYI!

An uber popular spot for locals and visitors alike, Hokitika Beach is a wonderfully wild place to stop and have a picnic this spring. Super close to the centre of town, if the winds pick up then you can rush into a nearby pub. If you head to the beach during the Wildfoods Weekend then you’re bound to find hundreds of bon fires lighting up the west coast sky.

The skies are grey, the water is heaving and the cold winds are whipping around your ankles. This beach is ideal for recreating the beach scenes from The Piano.
