Love this iconic building and all the classic Kiwi cinema history that runs through its bones. The fact that a member of the Timpson family - yes, Ant Timpson's clan - has bought this makes my heart sing. Watch this space!

A rumour is afoot that a big name in the Kiwi movie scene has bought this classic cinema. It's a beauty, and a true movie-lovers theatre. Famous for running “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” every Friday and Saturday night from 1978 – 1988, in more recent years its been home to the annual 24-hour Incredibly Strange Movie Marathon. Since changing ownership, the historic Wurlitzer organ has been removed, opening the stage up for future live events. I can't wait to see what's next!

nice place to be

Monthly shows of the Wurlitzer organ is one of Avondale's best kept secrets.

I love going to see movies at the Hollywood Theatre in Avondale. It's like an Old School film going experience - one man in a tiny booth handing out these cute little tickets, sitting in these old school seats. It's a wonderful experience!

Hollywood theater is an original 100 year old theater in Avondale. There's only one movie showing at a time but they get a lot of good movies and it's a great rainy day activity. The cinema is getting a little shabby but it doesn't stop it from being enjoyable. It's like stepping back in time, especially when the tickets are only $10!

Great place to go to if you’ve missed a movie! Films and staff r great! (:

What a gorgeous old-school cinema! It's like going back in time. And it still has the upstairs. Love it.
