Additional Information
I attended my first ever yoga class at Hot yoga Auckland on monday, when I arrived the staff were friendly and engaging but not to over the top..... The class was a heap of fun with a great teacher and able support. As a larger individual I was concerned that I would get treated differently (which has happened to me at gyms) this wasn't the case and I'm very much looking forward to attending the next session on Thursday...
I would just like to give a huge thank you to the staff at Hot Yoga Auckland for a great experience . I have never tried yoga before let alone a form of it in a hot room. After researching the possible venues in Auckland came across the website and the fantastic deal to be introduced to barkan method. I have never felt so energetic and calm after any experience of exercise before in my life. I can not wait for my second lesson this week :D!
I'm not a total yoga addict, but it is an excellent complement to everything else I do. Hot yoga suits me perfectly 'cos I have found studios in NZ often too cold, especially during winter months... I definitely chose this place for its excellent and well-organised facilities (compared to competitors in the area). Nice polished wood floors, proper showers and clean! That their instructors are competent and friendly is obviously important too!
After researching various Hot Yoga studios around central Auckland I decided to try out Hot Yoga Auckland in Newmarket, and I am so glad I picked this studio! Upstairs above Nood is this hidden little oasis of a studio. My overall first impression was soothing, light, open, and the staff were very welcoming. The studio itself is a great space with polished wooden floors, brick walls, a high-ish ceiling and windows down the outside wall. I found it a very tranquil space, even though you can hear the odd traffic noises, but they are not intrusive. They must take care to air the room between classes because even though the room was warm there was no trace of any offending odours. If you've tried other studios you might know what I'm talking about... Hot Yoga Auckland was so different to the last place I'd been to, which was small, windowless, claustrophobic, and smelled a bit like sweaty gym socks... The teachers are also great, they take their practice seriously but without all the rigor and severity of traditional Bikram teachers. I really enjoyed Fiona's class, she was supportive and encouraging and I will definitely be going back and signing up for a full membership.
I first walked into Hot Yoga Auckland on a whim, having never tried it before. Not only did I love my first class (the Hot Yoga Sampler at 6pm on Monday), but I found myself thinking about it all the next day, cancelling my plans and going again. And then I was hooked and have been going around 3-5 times per week, every week, for the past 6 months. The studio owner, Fiona, is a wonderful teacher and is always hosting workshops, challenges and I even signed up for their teacher training programme this month! No other studio has made me feel more welcomed or supported. I can't recommend Hot Yoga Auckland enough. You won't find a better studio or yoga experience in New Zealand.
I love Bikram and am still feeling the benefits from a solid year of regular sessions at Eastwest; but the cost does take its toll when you’re busy and can’t really afford to take 2.5hrs out for yoga every day to make the membership really pay forward. So I decided to try out Hot Yoga, just around the corner from eastwest in Newmarket. I was immediately attracted to the variety available and the slightly better prices, although a little disappointed they don’t have morning sessions every day as I can’t really make any other time. The combination of Yin, Vinyasa and Bikram yoga elements combined sounded like a good call and the express classes seem like they’ll fit into my pretty busy schedule without much compromise. I was welcomed really openly into the studio, blown over by how kind and generally “metta”-ful the people there are. The facilities at the studio are fantastic, clean and tranquil, modern with all the amenities you’d need including complimentary body lotions, deodorants and hairdryers in the changing rooms. The class itself was certainly very different from Bikram (surprisingly, more taxing on inner energy than Bikram! I found it was a real soul-workout, excuse the airy nonsensicality) but if I doubted it was a workout, I certainly got my comeuppance this morning (ha!). The teacher was really open and lovely, ready to help but also ready to challenge the class. It was really rewarding and a great sampler, and good value for $7 for first-timers. I would certainly advise you try out both Hot yoga and traditional Bikram if you’re interested in these practices. I just wish I could afford to do both instead of having to choose! This is a really choice yoga studio with a real community feel. Go and feel the burn, you will leave a little lighter in all aspects of your mind, body and spirit.
