It’s so hard to choose from Indigo’s superb award-winning menu. Vegetable Manchurian dumplings or share a mixed vegetarian platter for an appetiser and follow with a vegetable kadai or jaffrezi. I’ve never been disappointed.

A nip from a hip flask tucked into the back pocket has been known to heat up many a fisher on a cold day, even if the warmth from the liquor is only temporary. A more civilised way to get your “wee dram” of the Scottish “water of life” is to imbibe at Indigo Restaurant. The award-winning restaurant boasts a wall of heart-warming whiskey selections and even have a whiskey appreciation club for connoisseurs. Owner, Paul had 303 different varieties of the fire-water last count.

This excellent award-winning contemporary restaurant has got the ingredients right for a successful mix. The food is so seriously, indescribably yummy it’s hard to choose what to order. If a night of fine dining is not quite what you had in mind, or the popular eatery is booked out there’s still the option of savouring the warm embrace of this mind-blowing Indian food with a take-away. They even have a Grab ‘n Go option lunch if you want to eat at your desk – just put your order in, pick it up in 15 minutes or get it delivered straight to your door. They offer free delivery to adjacent Napier areas.

I love Indigo for its stylish menus, traditional and beautifully presented top-class Indian food and contemporary décor. They boast an extensive wine selection and a wall full of whiskey choices and host regular jazz sessions. The staff make you feel like a long-lost friend and the food is to die for. My only complaint is the amount of time it takes to decide what to have amongst the mouth-watering selection.

Impressive Indian food, which equals the very attentive and personal service. The food is scrumptious, the menus divine and the wide variety enables diners to choose anything from shared small plates through to banquet-sized meals. Situated in the Art deco quarter the building has been tastefully modernised, while retaining its historic origins. A selection of private dining booths offer an intimate experience. A favourite with international visitors and locals.

Napier is not where you'd expect to find a fine dining Indian restaurant of international reputation. Recently winning the Restaurant Association Outstanding Ethnic Restaurant at the Hawke's Bay Hospitality Awards and with five top chefs, understated service, a decor that would sit comfortably in any city and a glossy menu that wouldn't look out of place on the coffee table what's not to love about it?
