Opened in 2013, Janken is no longer the new kid on the block but already there are loads of loyal, die-hard fans of Auckland's finest proponent of fuss-free Japanese fusion. It's the kind of place you can visit every day for lunch, without breaking the bank. The nori salads are a quick, healthy solution and their lunch-box specials are priced at just $13.50. But what makes Janken stand-out most is that quality is at the forefront of everything this organic eatery do with its focus on macrobiotic food, meaning there is no dairy, eggs or white flour and sugar used in their meals. They've also just introduced a new range of sake so we suggest gathering together a few friends and enjoying a top-quality, giggly night out.

I love this place! It is a beautiful serene space and the food is great. They offer a selection of healthy food all made from scratch. The portions are perfect and they all look so darn pretty. I love coming here to eat and to soak up the aesthetics!

I was recommended this great little hole-in-the-wall by two in-the-know Auckland foodies and my teriyaki trevally more than lived up to the hype. I took someone from out of town and they also loved Janken’s fresh flavours, especially the mini dessert of fresh fruit and coconut cream. With weekly lunch specials and a buy nine meals then get one free card available for regulars, it’s just shot right up my list of Japanese food faves. What a find!

Japanese food isn’t usually super vegetarian-friendly. Janken rises to the challenge by presenting amazing, innovative, fresh, organic food (TOFU STEAM BUN ANYONE?) and vegan chocolate cake for dessert.

Beautifully presented food which was great value for lunch.

Stylish new Japanese spot in the Jervois Shops. Super fresh and yummy - try the steamed pork buns. Fusion style but moorish as hell.

This Herne Bay eatery serves up healthy, fresh Japanese food with a difference, and has a menu that belies how affordable its daily offerings are. Head chef Yatsumi is committed to using as many organic and free-range products as possible, whilst daily lunch specials like the Soy Sauce Ginger Lamb Bowl with fruits, Osouzai side dish and Japanese tea for just $13.50 have had locals surging through the door.

Interesting, delicious food, beautifully presented. A nice relaxing lunch spot

Happiness is dining at Janken - great service, and authentically sourced ingredients - I love that the food is organic where possible - it's so delicious and can satisfy my vegetarian and gluten free friends too. Too easy!

The pork buns from Janken were more like burgers with a Japanese spice which was a refreshing change from the gluggy pork buns I'm used to. Definitely worth a try.
