AMAZING!!! My partner and I shared the 1kg steak, and it was the fight of my life. I was fighting my goggling eyes and quaking stomach to eat it all, man it was good. The way this place works is you order a steak (plus entrees etc if you so desire), and a sauce, and that is your main. You have to order veges and sides separately. I think this place has to be the best steakhouse in Auckland, hands down. Every time I’ve eaten there I’ve loved it, even if my guts are a bit achy afterwards from being so full. Not the place for vegetarians...
Quite possibly my favorite restaurant in Auckland. The signature dish is amazing, the Wagyu to die for, Steak Fiorentina is perfect and if you’re not ravenous the simple eye fillet is spot on and always perfect. I even had the best chicken dish I’ve ever had here. My husband and I can’t resist getting at least 4 sides between us - we always get the onion rings, candied kumara, creamed spinach and one we haven’t tried before. We ditched the steakhouse fries a couple of years ago because they were always disappointing, but we tried them again a month ago and they have improved massively - triple fried maybe? They were perfect. I also get 2 sauces - partly because I’m greedy and partly because I can never decide on one. The prawn entree which is often on the specials is awesome, and so is the calamari schnitzel. Bobby Flay eat your heart out! His Mesa Grill restaurant in Vegas is VERY similar (mains+sides) to JSH but not nearly as good.
